RNs, Please

Take Only Pictures, Leave Only Footprints

How Hospitals Are Gambling With Your Life
Readers Digest
September, 2001

This segment was reprinted from the whole article which was too lengthy to repeat here.  If you haven't read it, by all means hunt down a copy.  One of the situations cited was allowing persons not properly trained to cover for an RN in a number of situations.

RNs, Please

To safeguard your health in the hospital, don't hesitate to ask for an RN to perform the following procedures on you:

  • Inserting IVs, catheters or gastric tubes
  • Changing sterile dressings or treating damaged skin
  • Giving shots
  • Caring for a tracheostomy or giving tube feedings.
