PET-FRIENDLY CAMPING Highways magazine Most RV parks and campgrounds allow pets as long as they are on a leash. The Trailer Life Directory assists RVers in choosing campgrounds by indicating whether there are pet restrictions or no pets allowed. You can then contact the campground to ask about its specific policies or limitations. Internet surfers will find a large site (www.petswelcome.com) that has added an easy-to-search database of thousands of private and public campgrounds and RV parks that accept pets. It also features a detailed guide to all the major airlines’ pet policies, a list of emergency veterinarians, a listing of boarding kennels and an information exchange where pet owners can ask questions or exchange information about traveling with their pets. Finally, a company called Pet Patio has developed a raised, secure pet run that is collapsible and weatherproof, attaches to any RV and is supported by strong legs that adjust to any uneven surface. The pet freely enters and exits the RV by a doggie door to the Pet Patio. The netting is the same as that used by wildlife preserves to keep raccoons out and there is a side door for access and waste removal. It is easy to store and easy to clean and supports up to a 40-pound pet. The suggested retail price is $259, and various sizes of pet doors are available. Pet Patio, 1313 Golden State Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93301; toll-free (877) Pet-Patio or (805) 334-1027. Internet: www.PetPatio.com
